There are no mistakes, only feedback to perfect what was determined impossible! Never give up, never stop learning, never stop trying.

What this scholarship means to me?

The Les Dames de Escoffier Scholarship has given me the opportunity to perfect my gifts of culinary through education. It has given me the support and expertise of talented women who understands success and are successful. Women who are willing to share and encourage me to successful culinary dreams.

Our dreams are like recipes that leads us to success. We configure, prep, and prepare. Many times, the recipe must be reconfigured over and over again. But, each time the feedback allows us to perfect what was deemed impossible!

Thank you for this opportunity,
Daphne Patterson Jones

Mentoring
The members of Les Dames d’Escoffier Birmingham believe that having a mentor during the early stages of one’s career is one of the key factors that lead to success. Our mentoring program, which is tailor-made for our scholarship recipients, assists them in reaching their career goals. We provide the opportunity for the recipients to meet, network and be mentored by members of our organization. These Dames share their expertise, give guidance and help with career development. This experience provides invaluable assistance to the mentees and leads to greater professional and personal growth. Our goal is to create lasting relationships that are formed between the mentors and mentees in order to help these young women achieve their career goals.
The Outreach Committee creates mentoring opportunities for high school culinary and Junior College culinary students. This includes visiting high school and college culinary programs around our city to talk with the students about careers in culinary. The committee works to create relationships and projects with institutions whose mission aligns with ours such as the Food Bank, Urban Ministries, Magic City Harvest and Jones Valley Teaching Farm. Our goal is to encourage our dames to work with students so that the students can gain experience by volunteering for various activities and projects. In addition, the Outreach Committee works with the Scholarship Committee to make recommendations for providing funding to assist and encourage culinary students.
