Birmingham Dames partners with The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama
The Birmingham Dames, in their first major outreach project, are partnering with The Community Food Bank of Central Alabama to produce a two-page guide to simple holiday dishes using foods distributed by the Food Bank at mobile food pantries during November and December.
Dames who work as chefs; recipe authors; nutritionists; recipe testers; and food photographers, illustrators and writers all are volunteering their time to work on the project. The guide will feature nutritious, easy-to-follow recipes for turkey, trimmings, breads and desserts (most requiring five ingredients or fewer and all using staples provided by the Food Bank).
This holiday food guide will benefit all of the Food Bank’s 240 member agencies. The Food Bank and its agencies serve as the hunger safety net for 255,672 people—75,000 of them children—who live in poverty. That is nearly one out of every five adults—and one out of every three children—who are chronically hungry in our immediate area.
Food Bank agencies will distribute the Les Dames holiday food guide to their community members. In addition to the recipes, the guide will educate families on preparation methods, stretching ingredients, food-safety and healthy eating options.
Your help is needed for this project to succeed; in particular, we need assistance with printing costs so that we can reach as many families as possible this holiday season. Birmingham Les Dames is seeking donations and sponsors for this project. If you are interested in helping, simply cut off the bottom portion of this letter and send it with your contribution to the address below. All the money raised will go toward the project.
