Dames in the Community
Our Sweet Treats sale in February helps raise money for our chapter’s outreach efforts. This year’s sale helped fund our work with The WellHouse, which offers sanctuary for survivors of human trafficking.
Every Saturday morning in September, it's Dames Takeover at the Market at Pepper Place. The money we raise at our booth allows us to fund Alabama's ProStart high school culinary teams and send young girls to summer camp at Jones Valley Teaching Farm.
We volunteer each month at the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama. And we partnered with the Food Bank for its inaugural Feast for Hope Gala. Some 300 guests got a behind-the-scenes look at the Food Bank and enjoyed a six-course tasting menu prepared by Dame-led teams and paired with wines. The event supported the Food Bank’s mission to feed food-insecure families in our area and to help find the solutions to end hunger in central Alabama.
Additionally, we judge local food contests like Episcopal Place's Gumba Gala, the Cahaba River Society Fry Down and the state ProStart competition, and we will volunteer and vend at The World Games.
